DemocracyOS came to change that. And I believe that with this purpose they can do much more. The world is changing, and is changing fast. At the center of these transitory times it is the Internet. The Internet has changed our way to communicate, to learn, to share our opinions. But the Internet still did not change effectively one thing: our way to do politics. How we participate in the decisions that concerns us all, democratically.
DemocracyOS is an online platform that allow citizens firstly, to be inform about the decisions that are being made by the governments. Then build proposals, debate decisions and specially to vote.
DemocracyOS is an online platform that allow citizens firstly, to be inform about the decisions that are being made by the governments. Then build proposals, debate decisions and specially to vote.
Behind the project is Pia Mancini and an inspiring group of activist. They are based in Buenos Aires and has their own Party, The Net Party, launched in August. Where its candidates are committed to decide according to the vote of the citizens using this software.
The platform is not only about political decisions, but it is also about engaged citizens. Responsible citizens, willing to be part of the debate, to give their vote based in clear information on what is really going on. It is about transforming the voices from the streets in concrete change. It is a promising idea, that can changed the way we organize our society, but is also a big challenge. As Pia said in her TED Talk, our challenges are cultural, not technological. Are we ready for the democracy in the internet era?
I hope so.
